At the Lotus Feet Of Lord Krishna - Kanna Vaa

Today I am presenting a bhajan on Lord Krishna. This bhajan is composed in the raaga Madhuvanti. This is a Janya raaga of the 59th Melakartha raaga 'Dharmavathi'. Dharmavathi and its janya raagas generally creates an amazing mood. I am very passionate about Dharmavathi and I love to hear it.
I heard this bhajan in the album 'Brindavan' by Bombay Jayashree. This is not a traditional bhajan and seems to be composed specifically for this album. S.Sabesh has done a fantastic job on composing the beautiful lyrics by Chitra Balraj. Ever since I heard this, I have been singing this in all my concerts. Another famous bhajan in Madhuvanthi is 'Krishna Karo'. I admit that there is still scope for improvement in the rendition.

btw it must be
thiruvaayaal iniya vENu gaanam isaikka viraindhOdi vaa and not uRaindhOdi vaa uRainthu means freeze. virainthu means fast. You are asking krishna to come fast and not come frozen :)

Nice rendering.
A small correction in the lyrics It is "KaNna Vaa Mani VaNna Vaa"
The Nna in VaNna is Moonu suzhi just like KaNna.
For further Clarity in voice:
I would EQ the voice a little bit more. Cut 250 Hz on both the tampura and voice. -4dB each with high Q (~7). I don't hear any bass (100-200Hz) on the tampura. May be a little cut at 3KHz would make the highs sound less nasal.

Fantastic singing Murali. Liked the song. Had to close my eyes though.!! So Divine.!!
I got reminded of another nice song ( I think in the same raaga)
KaNda naaL mudhalaai kaadhal perugudhadi.! Do you know that song.!!

Murali some observations
1) In the begenning and end of the song vaa of kanna vaa was slightly out of pitch :-)Since there is only a tanpura..it stands out..Just a matter of correcting it using a pitch correcting plugin.
2)You could reduce the voice level a little,as it sometimes goes beyond saturation level to distortion sometimes, and increase the volume and the bass freqs of the tanpura to match the ambience of the voice.
3)In tamil there is no nzha only na...in nayana....
4)You have improved tremendously in singing boldly. This has increased the punch and clarity to your words. Good going!
Overall Excellent rendition which touches the heart immensely....

Murali..First of all thanks for accepting the request of singing a Krishna Bhajan...You have rendered it beautifully....Good that you just used Tampura to set the sruthi and no accompaniments here...Very natural(even though Bombay jayasree's influence in the style)...devine and nicely done. Keep going...
Next time when you do eastern classical, see if you get Mridangam and violin accompaniments from friends also.
Njoy singing and thanks for sharing ur joy...

I disagree with Mux and Pradeep's comment about adjusting the volume. I believe the vocalist should sing , full throated in great volume to get the majesty of the voice. And Murali is in the progressive path. I would request Murali to listen to Ariyakkudi,Chembai and MS Ammal to see the quality of their rendition due to open throated hig volume rendition. And dont clip or distort the volume and use pitch alternators unless you want to sing film song which requires a very low volume. We audio engineers will suggest many things, but to culture ur voice the best method is to sing in your natural pitch, open throated in the high volume. At this point dont even worry about listeners , buddy be in sruthi and charge as a lion...is the way !!!
Now about the "nasal" effect Mux noticed, its not because of the volume , its because of the "obsession" to Bombay jayasree's style. Gotta practice more melstaayi sangathis is the correct way instead of concealing it throug adjustments.
Good work as always Murali.

I am doing good Murali. I was listening to "Kannaa Vaa". It is really good since i luv to hear songs without orchestration. As you know I do not have much idea about music, still i feel that "chila sthalangalil words nu adhikam stress kodukkunnutathu venda ennu, soft akunnathaanu nallathu ennu".
