Uyirin Uyire - A Harris Jayaraj Superhit

Today I am trying out a song composed by another brilliant composer of recent times 'Harris Jayaraj'. Harris entered the world of film music as a musician, playing the keyboard for many films. He started as a composer by writing advertising jingles. His first movie score was the music for the Tamil movie 'Minnale' . All songs from this movie were big hits. One song from the movie, "Vaseegara", became a pop hit which ruled the charts for many weeks. He next composed music for the Tamil movies 12B and Majnu. These two film songs were once again extremely popular. His first film score for Bollywood was the music for 'Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein', a remake of Minnale. Some of his other popular films are 'Anniyan', 'Kaaka Kaaka', 'Vettaiyadu Villaiyadu' and many more.
The song I am presenting here is 'Uyirin Uyire' from the film 'Kaakha Kaakha' directed by Gautham Menon. The Movie had an impressive opening, and went on to have a 150 Day Run, making it a Superhit. This song has been brilliantly rendered by Krishna Kumar popularly known as Kay-Kay. Recently I had the fortune to hear him live and his singing is breath taking. Since I have been receiveing requests to try fast numbers, thought of trying this one. Please let me know how you all like it.
Wish you all a MERRY X'MAS.

    hi murali,
I heard almost all the songs by you in your blog. You have a awesome voice and all the songs were so good in your voice.I think you dint heard this uyirin uyire song keenly. If you hear it again, you will come to know where you left. Its my humble opinion , people mix carnatic even while they sing western too.How it happens.

    Sowmya,

I welcome your feedback. It would be really helpful if you could tell the problem more specifically. I know that its not perfect and there are problems. I dint mix it with dual voice in certain places. Also the track is a mix from the original in BGMs and its been done otherwise in other places. So when it comes to the vocal portion, I felt some sort of dryness. These are the problems that I know off. Please feel free to give me feedback on to what exactly you felt as left out. Please keep giving valuable inputs. Once again Thanks..

    hi murali,
Dual singing will enrich the song.I dint mean that in my privious comment. The place where u spell the second "uyiRE" is somewhat different
almost wherever it comes through the entire song and the same with the place of eera"alaigAL".You made it right at the first line. Its just a small variation. But it sounds like odd.I am amazed to listen to your songs in your blog.I often visit your blog.I really appreciate that you post your songs within short duration of time.

    Keep it up.

hi Murali Bhai, Heard your song. I didnt expect such a faster response for my comment for your last song. gr8 effort. and one thing, as sowmya said, there is a special way in singing fast numbers , you shuld not give so much sangathis in fast songs. at some places it should be somewht flat , doenst mean tht without feel , but retaining the feel, u can do tht. most of the singers mix carnatic with light. the second "uyire" doesnt need tht twist , just sing plain. it wil do. then mixingwise also , at someplaces, u would have sung some parts also,at places like "Neram kooda Ethiri" ...at last u've included , but in between also , it would have done a gr8 job. and i liked your power singing. the thing is whn u sing fast numbers, forgt ur carnatic background. karaoke also is not tht good naa.. these are my humble views. :-) keep rocking...

    hi murali,

arun had said that clearly. My humble opinion is, practice singing more fast numbers. You need not put that effort for other songs which has lot of classical touch. As arun said, fast numbers doesnt need much kamakas. Mixing the carnatic touch in the light music should not exceed the limits. In the begining you just try to sing the same as the original song.

Awaiting for more songs to hear

Nice rendition, but I too would agree with Soumya and Arun. More than the point about gamakams, its about the feel of the song. Hope u dont get me wrong, but each song has a different feel. Asha Bhosle, Chitra and Hariharan are classic examples who bring out this variation. Inspite of singing very complex gamakams/ brigas, Hariharan can sound 'bindaas' - if u get what I mean. I think its in the way the mouth is opened while pronouncing, the way the voice is let out etc.. But your singing seems kind of in a similar mode in all kinds of songs. It sounds brilliant in melodies, but could be slighty different in songs such as this one.
(This is what I meant when I had told you about your Pachai nirame as well :) )
