Yamunayum Sarayuvum - Song from 'Amrutham'

Today I am presenting a song from the film 'Amrutham'. This is yet another composition from Shri.M Jayachandran. This film is directed by the great director Shri.Sibi Malayil. Sibi Malayil is the director of many hit films like Kireedam, His Highness Abdulla, Bharatham etc. Infact His Highness Abdulla and Bharatham were films which had great imortance to music and as a result of that we got some ever green songs from our beloved Ravindran Master like 'Pramada vanam', 'Devasabha thalam', 'Ramakadha' to name a few.
The song which is being presented today is 'Yamunyum Sarayuvum' sung by Shri G Venugopal. This song is a nostalgic one and composed well by Sri.M Jayachandran on the wonderful lyrics of Shri Kaithapram. ln fact this is one song which I recorded even before thinking of blogging. Please let me know how all of you like it.

Innisai Padi Varum - Thullaadha Manamum Thullum

Today I am presenting a song composed by Sri S A Rajkumar and sung by the great singer Sri.Unnikrishnan. I am a great fan of this legendary singer from 1990's. Infact I read an article about Unnikrishnan in 'India Today' in 1994 and bought an album called 'Melodious Moods' which had some wonderful Bhajans and Keerthanas.Since then I never stopped hearing him and I have a fairly big collection of his songs. He has a strong classical background he is a disciple of Dr.S Ramanathan and Savithri Sathya Moorthi. Infact A R Rehman brought him into the film music. He has a unique style in rendition and his renditions are rich in emotional aspect. He won National award for best male singer twice for his brilliant renditions in 'Kadhalan' and 'Pavithra'. I had the fortune to listen to him live thrice inlcuding once at Sri.Vaikom Mahadevar Temple . I should say I was spell bound by his concert. One should hear his renditions in the album 'Gopi Chandanam' on 'Lord Krishna' composed by another genius music director and singer Sarath. And he is a cricket enthusiast who played for the Tamilnadu senior division league as a Top order Batsman and Wicket Keeper.
The song is 'Innisai Padi Varum' from the film 'Thullaadha Manamum Thullum' casted by Vijay and Simran. This song is composed by Sri S.A Rajkumar who has around 42 Tamil movies to his credit. Other films to his credit are Aanandham,Vaseegara, Priyamaana Thozhi,Pudhu Vasantham to name a few. I like this song very much and thought I would give a try. Unnikrishnan has done a wonderful job in the rendition. Infact Reji was telling me during recording, that there are problems in the track at one or two places. Anyway I thought of sharing with all of you. If I get a better track, I will remix it and upload again.
The upcoming releases are 'Golden Oldies - Part 2' , duets with Srividya and Divya, and some more bhajans and Carnatic music . Thanks for all your support and encouragement. Please keep listening and share your thoughts to improve my singing. I once again kindly request all of you to leave a comment in the comments section after hearing the songs.

Devotional Song on Lord Ayyappa

Today I am presenting a devotional song on 'Lord Sree Ayyappa' on behalf of the beginnning of Sabarimala season known as 'Mandala Pooja' period.Kerala is a land of temples; perhaps the best known pilgrimage destination in Kerala is Sabarimala, high up in the Sahyadri Mountains(western ghats). Sabarimala Sri Dharmasastha Temple is the most famous and prominent among all the Sastha Temples. It is believed that "Parasurama Maharshi" who retrieved Kerala from the sea by throwing his axe, installed the idol of Ayyappa at Sabarimala to worship Lord Ayyappa. The pilgrimage begins in the month of November and ends in January. The temple attracts pilgrims not only from the southern states of India, but also from other parts of the country and abroad. Certain customs are to be strictly observed if one has to undertake a pilgrimage to Sabarimala. A pilgrim attending the Mandalapooja should observe austerities for 41 days.
The song which is being presented today is 'Udichuyarnnoo Mamala Mele'. This song is composed by Sri.Gangai Amaran who is the brother of the legendary musician Sri. Illayaaja. He has scored music for 153 films, directed 22 movies and penned 2000 songs. And more over he is a play back singer who has around five hundred numbes to his credit. All the songs in this album are very popular in Kerala. The golden voice of K J Yesudas along with his sheer devotion and emotion takes everyone to heaven.

Megham Poothu Thudangi from Thoovanathumbikal

Again I am presenting another song composed by Sri. Perumbavoor G Ravindranath. Earlier I presented 'Kannil Nin Meyyil' composed by this great music director. Based on a strong classical foundation, he composes songs in an amazing time frame. I used to ask about the story behind the creation of super hit songs from Innale, Thoovanathumbikal etc. The film Innale had a song composed in Atana raga. I was told that Perumbavoor G Sir felt like composing it in Atana while he was teaching students a Deekshithar Krithi in the same Raaga. And the moment Sri.Padmarajan heard this tune, immediately was excited with it. Each of these wonderful songs will have beautiful and inspiring stories behind the creation.
The song whis is being presented today is from another Padmarajan Classic 'Thoovanathumbikal'. I would say this is a must see film for anyone. This is another classic from the great director. One should see the performance of Sri.Mohanlal, the great actor too in this movie. The song is 'Megham Poothu thudangi' written by Sri. Sreekumaran Thambi. This is a brilliant composition especially considering the context in the film. The song is simply awesome in the golden voice of K J Yesudas. I felt that this song is not an easy one to sing although it sound a bit simple when we hear it. Neverthless I have tried to do justice to the song.

Aadamodi Galada - A Thyagaraja Krithi

Am going back to the basics. Today I am presenting a Thyagaraja Krithi on Lord Rama.I believe that Carnatic Music is the backborn of any musical form. We are fortunate to have legends like 'Thayagaraja Swami', 'MuthuSwami Deekshithar' and 'Shayamashastri' and so many greats to bless us with so much of great compositions where the learning process is never ending for any music student. Those legends had just music in life and they realized God through their shere devotion.
I want to remember two of my Guru's Late Sri Vaikom Valli Ammal and Sri Late Vaikom Gopalakrishnan who are not with us in this world today. I learned all the basics from Valli Ammal teacher who gave care and love like a mother.Sri Gopalakrishnan sir devoted his entire life for music exploring the vast ocean, sacrificing even a family life. His knowledge in Carnatic Music was so deep that he even wrote Varnams and Keerthanas. Me and my close friend Girish Varma were fortunate to learn even a ragamalika in 72 melakartha ragas composed by Sri. Maha Vaidyanatha Iyer. The Krithi which I am presenting today was taught by Gopalakrishnan Sir. I was very fortunate to have him as my Guru who was gem of a person.
I am experimenting a little bit of raga alapana too in this. Singing Carnatic music is a difficult task and requires a lot of dedication and practice. I am still a student who like to explore this amazing form of music which has unlimited possibilities. I am taking this as an oppurtunity to learn and improve by hearing from all my friends and music lovers.
