Uyirin Uyire - A Harris Jayaraj Superhit

Today I am trying out a song composed by another brilliant composer of recent times 'Harris Jayaraj'. Harris entered the world of film music as a musician, playing the keyboard for many films. He started as a composer by writing advertising jingles. His first movie score was the music for the Tamil movie 'Minnale' . All songs from this movie were big hits. One song from the movie, "Vaseegara", became a pop hit which ruled the charts for many weeks. He next composed music for the Tamil movies 12B and Majnu. These two film songs were once again extremely popular. His first film score for Bollywood was the music for 'Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein', a remake of Minnale. Some of his other popular films are 'Anniyan', 'Kaaka Kaaka', 'Vettaiyadu Villaiyadu' and many more.
The song I am presenting here is 'Uyirin Uyire' from the film 'Kaakha Kaakha' directed by Gautham Menon. The Movie had an impressive opening, and went on to have a 150 Day Run, making it a Superhit. This song has been brilliantly rendered by Krishna Kumar popularly known as Kay-Kay. Recently I had the fortune to hear him live and his singing is breath taking. Since I have been receiveing requests to try fast numbers, thought of trying this one. Please let me know how you all like it.
Wish you all a MERRY X'MAS.

Kanneer Poovinte - Another Johnson Masterpiece

Today I am presenting another song composed by the Melody King of malayalam music Shri.Johnson. My earlier post was 'Thane Poovitta Moham'. Johnson is a prominent South Indian composer of film scores who has given music to some of the most important motion pictures of Malayalam cinema. He is noted for his lyrical and expressive melodies together with simple but rich tonal compositions of thematic music. His skilful integration of textual rhythm of the lyrics together with rich tonal arrangement, redefined songwriting in Malayalam cinema, since the late 1980s. In his film scores, Johnson combines native South Indian melodic patterns with the harmonic structure of European classical music and this has attained an expressive form of narration through film score.
The song I am presenting here is 'Kanneer Poovinte' from the superhit film 'Kireedam'. Kireedam is a movie that redefined Malayalam cinema about a Keralite youth whose hopes and aspirations are shattered by a combination of fate and human failing. This has been a great composition on the lyrics of Shri.Kaithappram. M.G Sreekumar won the Kerala State Award for the best male playback singer for this song. M.G Sreekuamr is well known for his own unique style in rendition. I have tried to do justice to his wonderful rendition.

Jeena Yahan Marna Yahan- Tribute to Mukesh

Mukesh Chand Mathur (formal name Zoravar Chand), popularly known as Mukesh, referred to as the man with the golden voice, was one of the finest Indian playback singers along with Mohammed Rafi and Kishore Kumar. Mukesh's voice was noticed by Motilal (a popular actor in Hindi films, also a distant relative of Mukesh) when he sang at his sister's wedding. Motilal took him to Bombay, let him stay with him and even arranged for singing lessons for him. During this period, Mukesh managed to bag a role in a Hindi film, Nirdosh (1941). He got his break as a playback singer in 1945 with the film Pehli Nazar. The first song he sang for a Hindi film was Dil Jalta Hai to Jalne De , which was incidentally picturised on Motilal. He is best known for the songs he sang as a playback singer for Raj Kapoor, a legendary actor/director of Bollywood in 1950s and 1960s.In 1974, Mukesh received a National Award for the song Kain baar yoon bhi dekhaa hai from Rajnigandha (1974), and Filmfare Awards for the songs Sab Kuch Seekha in the movie Anari (1959), Ganga Ram Ki Samajh in Pehchaan (1970), Jai Bolo in Be Imaan (1972) and Kabhie Kabhie in the film of the same name (1976).
The song is 'Jeena Yahan' from the super hit film 'Mera Naam Joker'. This song is composed by Shankar - Jaikishan, the great composers. Lyricist Shailendra passed away suddenly in the midst of working on ‘Jeena Yahan Marna Yahan’ and his son Shaily completed his father’s work. This is another experiment in singing a Hindi song from my side. This was recorded along with my earlier post 'Woh Sham'. So there may not be much of an improvement in terms of diction and pronounciation:). Infact these two songs were my first experiment singing hindi songs. Neverthless I am sharing with all of you. Please do give valuable suggestions to improve.

There are few people towards we feel respect and love like a mother. Today myself along with Srividya, presenting a song sung by such a loving and gem of a personlity Smt S Janaki and Shri.Unnikrishnan. S.Janaki, is being affectionately called as 'Melody Queen'. Famous music director T. Chalapati Rao gave Janaki her first break in the Tamil film 'Vidhiyin Vilayattu' in 1957. Later on, she got a chance in Telugu film MLA. Since then there has been no looking back for her. Apart from being a great singer she is also a lyricist and music composer. She has written many songs for Tamil and Telugu films. She has sung about 20,000 songs in her career, in almost all languages in South India as well as in Hindi, Simhalese, Malayalam, Bengali, Oriya, English, Sanskrit, Konkini, Tulu, Saurashtra, Baduga, and German. She has won National Award 4 times, Tamilnadu State government award 7 times, Kerala state Government awards 14 times, Andhra state government awards 10 times. She was honoured with 'Kalai Mamani' in 1986, 'Sur Singar' award in 1987, and 'Cinema Achiever Award' by the government of Kerala in the year 2002. Yes...an artist should be humble, down to earth and loving when they grow, just like Smt.Janaki.
The song which is being presented today is a duet 'Margazhi Thingalallava' composed by Shri A R Rehman from the film 'Sangamam'.This is a superb composition and brillaintly rendered by Smt.S.Janaki and Shri.Unnikrishnan.
