Raaga Bhaavam - Sindhubhairavi

I have always been captured by stupefaction looking at the limitless possibilities of expressing myself, through my music. Our traditional Carnatic Music has really amazing capabilities of bringing in as many varieties or as many ‘shaili’s as there are number of musicians!! So to say, each and every artiste has her/his own different style which emerges out of their inner soul that merges seamlessly with their recital.
Manodharmam is such a beautiful and distinguished unique aspect of classical music. I cannot express my state of mind, as an unheard new ‘sangathi’ flows out of my heart to my throat as I am improvising the manodharmam in a concert! As though, the omnipresent one has chiselled it from a portion of my heart, prompting me to present it to the world. That is where we fail to recognise the boundary where music blends into the power, the power which moves the world; where does it start, where does it end? Can anyone separate the two and tell the world what is what? I thank with all my heart, my God, who has blessed me with Himself, with music...I thank from the bottom of my heart, my Guru, late Mr. Shri Vaikom Gopalakrishnan who made me realise the vastness of Carnatic Music.

With blessings from each one of my Gurus and all who have always supported me, I would like to start an endeavour to bring out each raga the way each one of them have touched me and left their mark on me...I would rather call this as “Raaga Bhaavam”..This time it is Sindhubharavi in the form of aalaap initially which flows in to the famous Shloka “Shivam Shivakaram Shaantham Shivaathmaanam Shivothamam Shivamaarga Pranethaaram Pranathosmi Sadaashivam”. It is totally unplanned. It just happened....I have also sung the krithi “Gangaadheeshwaram...” towards the end.
Your feedbacks are very important for me. That is how I have improved along my way..

    Murali,

Very divine voice, and very beautifully rendered. Impromptu actually brings out each artists creativity much better, since there're no boundaries already set in our head :-)

Very glad to have heard this, Murali. Your voice touches the very soul, and I am sure Sindhu Bhairavi is what will be there with me for quite sometime to come!

Thank you Murali, for bringing in a breath of fresh air into the blog world. We should all be inspired by this and not confine ourselves to same old karaoke singing.
    Please sing more Carnatic.
Brilliant singing as always. I love Sindhubhairavi and you've done a fabulous job. Quite rare to find an elaboration of a "light" raga like this. I like the idea that you chose to elaborate on this, of all ragas- always like it when people defy conventions.
You sound divine. Loved the phrase at -18:40 and around -15:13 when u seamlessly bring in both the madhyamams (took me a while to figure out what swaras they were! isn't it in fact a madhyamam in between m1 and m2?! beautiful :) )
I am not qualified to comment on your Carnatic singing, but just a few humble suggestions- given a 20 minute aalaapanai, I feel there was scope for more variations. Beginning sounds a little repetitive.
Also, more "aa"kaara would have sounded even better than "rakaara" and "na..na na" or "ta ra ra" frequently- that might give a better sense of flow.
Finally, as far as I observed, you have not used the dha2 (as opposed to dha1) except at a couple of places (sorry if I missed it)- u could use it more liberally. Sindhubhairavi as you may know is the only raga that makes use of all 12 swarasthaanams, so gives one the maximum freedom to explore.
Overall, just brilliant. Congrats and looking forward to more in your series of "Raaga Bhavam"! My personal request to you to do more "light" (although am opposed to that term) ragas like this one rather than the traditional Kalyani/ Kambodhi etc.
Sorry for the rather long comment!

Murali.. Very Fortunate to have landed at your blog.. listening to your rendering gave a very serene sense of feel.. The element of surprise was to have traversed to the prathi madhyamam towards the end of the Aalabanai as well as on "Prenetharam", bringing in a tinge of Subha Banthuvarali in the descent.. Brought back memories of "Hari murali ravam". Please continue your good work ..
    With Love
    Vicky
PS: Your interpretation of "Mano dharmam" is nice for dummies like me..made it sound a lot less abstract.. Thanks.
