Samayamithapoorva Sayahnam from Harikrishnans

Ouseappachan is a National Award, Filmfare Award and Kerala State Film Award-winning Indian music director who sets scores for Malayalam films. He is one of the most sought after musicians in the Malayalam film industry. He started his music career as violinist in some music troupes. These songs were noted also for the immense use of violin. This may be attributed to the facts that Ouseppachan himself is a violinist and that the protagonist of the film played by Mammootty is also a violinist[1]. Ouseppachan then went on to compose music for over 40 films[2]. Music Maestro A R Rahman associated with him for most of his films in late 80s.He won the national award for Best music Director in 2007 for Ore kadal and the Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director in 1987 for his compositions for the film Unnikale Oru Katha Parayam. He also scored music for the Hindi film Freaky Chakra , directed by V.K. Prakash.Aside from music direction, he has taken up a spot as a judge for Asianet's Idea Star Singer 2008.

I am presenting a semi classical song 'Samayamithapoorva Sayahnam' from the film 'Harikrishnans' casting both Mammootty and Mohanlal directed by Fazil.. Songs in Vellithirai has been penned by Kaithappram Damodaran Namboothiri and composed by Ouseppachan. This song is based on Naavrasa Kannada and a lovely transition to Shahana in the charanam. Happy Onam - Uthrada Poonilave Vaa

Again its another Onam. Onam brings in a lot of nostalgic memories all the time.I was born and brought up in a village called 'Udyanapuram'. I did my most of my schooling also there and I do have plenty of beautiful moments when it comes to Onam. Along with my brothers Ramesh, Kannan and sister Deepa, we used to go around the village to collect flowers to put 'Pookkalam' during all the 10 days of Onam celebrations and usually celebrate Thiruonam with our grand parents.
Here I am presenting a popular onam song 'Uthrada Poonilave' from the album Vasantha Geethangal. On this occasion of Onam I wish you all a 'Happy Onam'.Also I am happy to say that I have completed three years of blogging. I would like to thank all the music lovers for the support and am happy that blog is nearing 60000 hits. Once again I thank Pradip Somasundaran who made me start blogging. Without his support and encouragement it would have never happened.

Haira Haira from Jeans

Jeans is a 1998 Tamil musical and romantic film. Directed and co-written by Shankar and produced by Ashok Amritraj and Murali Manohar, its stars Prashanth, Aishwarya Rai and Nassar in multiple lead roles. Raju Sundaram and Lakshmi, prominent actors from the south Indian film industry, played the roles of the lead characters' relatives in the movie. The film opened to Indian audiences after several delays, on 24 April 1998 just after the Tamil New Year, and in the process, became the most expensive film to be made in India at the time.[2] Despite receiving mixed reviews on the actors' performances and the basic storyline, the film became a major hit at the South Indian box office. Owing to its success, it was later dubbed into the Hindi and Telugu language and released with the same name. The film was nominated by India as its entry for the Best Foreign Language Film for the Academy Awards in 1998.

I along with Tara Balakrishnan present the song 'Haira Haira Hai Raba' from the film Jeans. Tara is a talented singer whom I met in Muziboo. Its been quite sometime since we stated discussing about this song and due to various commitments, we were not able to complete it for a long time. Thanks to Tara for sticking on to the commitment. This song is composed by none other than A R Rehman, sung by Unnikrishnan and SPB Pallavi. Please let us know how you all like it.

Hangama Hai Kyon - Ghulam Ali Classic

Ghulam Ali ( born 1940) is a famous Pakistani ghazal singer of the Patiala gharana. Ali was born in the village of Kaleke in the Sialkot District of Punjab, pre-partition India (now in Pakistan). He belongs to a musical family, his father was a vocalist and a sarangi player who initiated Ghulam Ali to music from his childhood.Ali's father named him after Bade Ghulam Ali. At 15, he became a student of Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, a master of the Patiala Gharana (Patiala School) of Hindustani music. Due to the busy schedule of Bade Ghulam Ali, he was trained mainly by Bade Ghulam Ali Khan's three brothers, Barqat Ali Khan, Mubarak Ali Khan, and Amanat Ali Khan, in Lahore. All these distinguished classical musicians taught him the finer nuances of classical music. His solid foundation of classical music included studying Thumri and learning to sing raga.Ali started singing for Radio Lahore in 1960. Along with singing ghazals, Ghulam Ali composes music for his ghazals. His compositions are raga-based and sometimes include a scientific mixture of ragas. He is known for blending gharana-gaayaki into ghazal and this gives his singing the capability to touch hearts. He beautifully sings Punjabi songs too. Most of his Punjabi songs have been extremely popular. Though from Pakistan, Ghulam Ali remains as popular in India as in Pakistan.
For me Ghulam Ali is God of Music. Its very difficult to reproduce the finest nauences that he bring into his Ghazals. I am attempting the classic 'Hangama Hai Kyon' here. I love this Ghazal very much.Apologies in advance for any pronounciation issues and ofcourse dont compare with the originals.I dont think anyone can sing like or even make it close to the maestro.I am not that good in hindi :-).Please let me know how you all like it.

Uyire (Bombay) - Solo Version

During last season, I have sung the song 'Uyire Uyire' from the film Bombay in numerous stages. Sometimes used to sing as a duet and sometimes even as a solo version. Even myself and Thushar(Finalist of ISS 2007) sung this as a male duet in couple of stages. Both of us love improvising and we used to do a lot as there is pleanty of scope for improvisation in this song. Just thought of recording this as a solo version and sharing with all of you. Please let me know how you all like this.

Sadho Sadho - Meera Bhajan

Meera Bhai (1498 - 1547) was a Rajput princess who lived in the north Indian state of Rajasthan. She was a devout follower of Lord Krishna. Meera Bhai was one of the foremost exponents of the Prema Bhakti (Divine Love) and an inspired poetess. She sang in vraja-bhasha, sometimes mixed with rajasthani, in praise of Giridhara Gopala (Shri Krishna), her lord for whom she developed in her heart the most intense love and devotion.

Am presenting a Meera Bhajan 'Sadho Sadho' in the raaga 'Aahir Bhairav' which is same as 'Chakaravakam'. Chakaravakam is 16th melakartha raaga. The samay for this raaga is Second Prahar of the morning, around 6 - 9 AM. I heard this bhajan long back sung by P Unnikrishnan in his melifluous voice. Instally it went into my heart because of the beauty of the composition and heart melting rendition. Let me know how you all like this.
